Thompson - President and C.E.O
Syd Thompson is the President and C.E.O.
of Leader General Distributors. Syd studied
at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona
before returning to Winnipeg to study at
the University of Winnipeg. It was then
that Syd became interested in the family
business; he began by accompanying his father
on sales trips to colonies throughout Western
Canada. He grew integrally involved in the
purchasing, sales, and logistical areas
of the business, eventually becoming President
of the company. Under Syd's leadership,
Leader has dramatically increased its capacity
to handle large volumes of inventory (it
currently features 150,000 square feet of
warehousing space) thereby expanding its
presence on the national and international
stages and furthering its status as one
of the largest closeout distributors in
North America.
Laurie Thompson
- Founder and Executive Chairman
Laurie is the founder and executive chairman
of Leader General Distributors. Originally
a professional hockey player drafted by
the Montreal Canadians, Laurie began in
a small, 800-foot grocery outlet in Winnipeg’s
North End. By expanding the wholesale
distribution capability of the business
Laurie turned Leader into one of the largest
jobbers in Canada and laid the foundation
for Leader’s current success. Today
Laurie remains an indispensable fixture
in the Leader family, maintaining close
ties with all its clientele--clientele
whom he has served for over 50 years.
Mark Wold - Chief
Financial Officer
Mark is Chief Financial Officer of Leader
General Distributors. After earning his
Bachelor of Commerce degree (Honors) from
the University of Manitoba, he went on
to earn his Chartered Accountant degree.
Mark began by articling with Warms Rogers
Wright (now Price Waterhouse Cooper).
In 1984 he began work for Prairie Reman
Ltd. where he would serve as controller.
Six years later Mark - along with the
General Manager at the time -went on to
purchase Prairie Reman from the previous
owners. After closing the business down
in late 2002 Mark began his work at Leader
General Distributors where he currently
serves as Chief Financial Officer. Mark
is married with two children, he is a
lover of all types of music, and enjoys
playing the piano.
Tim McDaniel
- Director of Operations
Tim earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree
(Honors) from the University of Manitoba
he went on to earn his Chartered Accountant
designation. In his position as Director
of Operations at Leader, Tim is responsible
for day-to-day operations of the warehouse,
coordination of order fulfillment, coordination
of product packaging, inventory management,
and is involved with sales to colonies.
Tim is married with two children, and
is actively involved in children and youth
programs at his church. He enjoys gardening,
camping, and spending time with his family.
